Kermit Welch
plays many instruments & performs as a soloist, chamber musician & orchestral
player. This also includes various types of combos & bands. As a
clarinetist/vocalist in his trio with guitar or banjo & string bass, Mr. Welch
has had considerable success. He performed as "Mr. Clarinet" at a Pasadena
Restaurant for several months; was a strolling musician at the Whale & Ale for 7
years; performed in a Dixieland Band at Disneyland, & he was a street musician
with his Buskers Trio. Mr. Welch owns 14 different sized clarinets & he is
accomplished on the sopranino, soprano, G mezzo, & bass clarinets. As a
saxophonist, Mr. Welch has performed with many big bands, including a few years
with the Havin’ Fun Band at Alpine Village as jazz tenor, & he was lead alto in
the Westside Jazz Ensemble, for many dance shows. Mr. Welch is a popular
substitute for many bands on baritone saxophone & for 7 years he played the rare
sopranino saxophone in Vintage Brass, which recently disbanded due to the
leader’s illness. In his “stable” of saxophones is a quite small (12 inches
high) sopranino, saxcello, conn-o-sax, straight alto, straight tenor, & bass
saxophone. Few saxophonists perform on the “C Melody” saxophone, the choice of
saxophonists today. The audience loves the way Mr. Welch plays the old tunes on
these odd saxophones which have unusual shapes & sounds - all which create a
nice visual effect. Flute is always popular & Mr. Welch performs on both metal &
wood C flute, plus piccolo. An cctavian is a small instrument that resembles the
butt end of a bassoon, called an octavian. It produces a Dixieland or oriental
sound. But for those Hawaiian songs, ballads, pop, comic, & children's tunes,
Mr. Welch choses the ukulele as the perfect accompanying instrument! Oh, by the
way, Mr. Welch taught in the school system for many years, quite successfully, &
he turned out many fine students, too numerous to mention!! Mr. Kermit Welch may
