Laura Thomas-Merino recently
completed her Master of Music at Wichita State University in 2000 and she
received her Bachelor of Music degree in 1997 from Indiana University,
Bloomington where she had Master Classes with Janos Starker. She has
had a myriad of experiences with various chamber orchestras and symphony
orchestras here and in Peru, Wichita and Indiana. Laura attended the
prestigious Idyllwild Music Sumer Camp and she was also a graduate of the Los
Angeles County High School for the Arts. She has received various
accolades including membership in Pi Kappa Lambda and the First Place award in
the ‘Emerging Young Entertainer Competition’ at the Los Angeles Music Center.
Laura continues to teach cello in Los Angeles as she did throughout the cities
of Wichita and Newton, Kansas. She is a member of the newly formed MESTO,
the Calabasas Chamber Orchestra, and the West Hollywood Orchestra. She was
one of two composition winners in the Pi Iota String Competition 2001 for her
original cello piece.
